Stevenson Ranch Davidians - Let it All Go
Stevenson Ranch Davidians - Getting By
Stevenson Ranch Davidians - Better Day
Are you in the middle of an existential crisis? Not sure what to do? Afraid you might lose your mind? Fear not readers! For today, I have something very special for you, an album that will show you the light; the light of just letting go of your stress, tension and emotional woes. "My god man, what album are you talking about?!" is it that you ask? Well, today I have for you a very special album called "Psalms, Hymns & Spiritual Songs" by the Stevenson Ranch Davidians. By listening to this album, I give you my personal guarantee that your spirits will be lifted, and your outlook brightened.
But don't get me wrong; despite the name, this aint no neo conservative christian hokey pokey wankery. These guys have a psychedelic feel, with a message of self betterment.
Songs such as "Let it All Go" and "Getting By" implore the listener to drop everything that is troublesome and be free! "Nothings Cliche" is a classic tune, declaring that, well, nothing is cliche because everything has been done already, so don't worry about coming across as dumb or unoriginal. "Better Day" may be a little emo, but god what a great song. The song opens with the lines "I go to sleep to get away, in a crazy world its my escape, but it only lasts until I wake, same old problem different day". Jesus, if that doesn't fit my life to a T, then I'm not sure what does. "Dont Get Hung Up" shows up just in time after the emo song. The title says it all; the song is about not getting stressed over crap that is out of your control. "Don't think about why or how, you won't find answers anyhow" is the sort of sentiment this song is getting at; its a live in the now sort of song, which is something everybody should try to do at least a little bit. "Subliminalover" is a lovesick song about how the singer can't get an ex out of his mind. It's one of those songs that a lot of people can probably connect with, seeing as how there's always that certain someone you're probably better off without, but for some reason memories of her/him still linger in your mind. The rest of the songs are just as excellent as the songs that I have mentioned. Their messages are those that people probably need to hear to help them get through the daily grind.
If I were to compare the Stevenson Ranch Davidians to any other bands, I would probably have to say they are similar to the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Black Angels, Dandy Warhols and Six Organs of Admittance. The difference between SRD from the aforementioned bands would be that SRD's message is not nearly as bleak as what BJM or the Black Angels have to say.
"Psalms, Hymns & Spiritual Songs" has been out since 2008, so you probably wont have a hard time getting a hold of it. Order it at a local record store near you, and you will be on your way to enlightenment! Or something damn near close to it.
