"Math and Physics club" LP by Math and Physics Club

Math and Physics Club - Darling, Please Come Home
Math and Physics Club - Look at us now
Math and Physics Club - You'll Miss me

Brought up on the Scottish indie pop sounds of Belle and Sebastian, and Camera Obscura, this band is a call back to the yester-years that have passed only very recently.

Although their sound is very easy to place in reference to influences and styles, trying to emotionally connect is a harder task, that can only be solved when you suddenly have one of those "aha" moments. Most likely, when you are in sync with the mood of the song.

Deceptively happy, the beats are peppy with that nice swing beat on the 3 and 4. But the lead guitar just kind of does this meandering tune for all the songs, that you would think would get really annoying, but pulled off very well by harmonizing with the vocal melody the whole time. His playing is what draws in that certain other feeling that can't really be explained. Almost like the feeling of looking far away into the horizon when you're hanging with your friends.

The orchestration is simple, and the musicians charming, with the singer doing a bit of that Stuart Murdoch crooning. And in honestly, they may even be a bit more simple than Belle and Sebastian. None of those epic string instruments here, just some guitars doing some jangling, and some drums and a bass to walk up and down the funk lines.

But simple is where a lot of their charm comes from. Some of the songs just kind of repeat others, but some of the really hit you right in that spot, and drag you into a lazy slumber.

Worth checking out if you're into down tempo indie pop, if you enjoy this album go check out their newest release. If you don't like ordering through awesome archaic systems you can go to amazon instead.
