KEXP does this band of the week thing where they invite people into their studios and then they jam and you get to listen to some awesome sessions work. This week's band is a local group from up there in Seattle called The Cute Lepers.
I can't say I'm a big fan of punk rock, but these guys manage to balance out all the anger and angst of being under the thumb of society (I mean that's what they talk about right? Punks?) and a charming melodic style that makes them easily accessible to sheep like me. It's very Screeching Weasel with a bits of flourish from an amazing second guitarist, and more finely toned like The Vandals. And yes, there is also a handful of pop-punk melodies in there as well, but that just makes even more reminiscent of 1998.
