The Van Jets: The Future
“The Future” is a song by the Belgium band The Van Jets. It is a groovy little tune. This song is a cross between garage rock, glam and a pinch of pop. Somewhere in the song there is a decent guitar solo. The vocals fit the song well; not too high, not too low, no screaming, no grumbling, just a guy singing his heart out. The chord progression is… uplifting, yet kind of melancholy at the same time. It’s not too sad, but neither too happy. Well, okay, maybe a little bit more uplifting than it is melancholy. The drumming is excellent; it rolls and tumbles at times, but doesn’t do anything too fancy or annoying to distract the listener from the actual song.
What the song means is beyond me; maybe the singer is trying to say don’t worry about the future, think about the present. But fuck if I know what the song really means. All I know is that I’ve listened to it on repeat about 7 times now; its one of those songs that just flies into your ears and embeds itself in that certain corner of your brain, where nothing but listening to the song about a thousand times will un-lodge it.
I would have to give this song a solid eight out of ten. Sometime soon I will have to review the whole album itself and then their first album too. Until then, keep listening to whatever makes your foot tap and your hands clap.
