"Riothouse" by The Daytona Riots

The Daytona Riots - Riothouse

I hope you’re ready to rock and/or roll, ‘cause I’m going to play you a fuckin’ rockin’ tune: “Riothouse” by The Daytona Riots. This is another group I stumbled across on bandcamp, and given that they’re British and just formed in January, I imagine they’re nigh-unheard of in the U.S. (so get ready to score you some obscurer-than-thou hipster points, if you’re into that kind of thing). Their demo, The Red Room Tapes, consists of just three songs, but all three are full of dirty, fun energy, so I hope these guys keep it together to put out more material. That album is available for free download on bandcamp, so you should probably go snag that shit without delay (http://thedaytonariots.bandcamp.com/album/the-red-room-tapes). It’s cool. I’ll wait here until you’re back.

Got it? Great, now you know why I’m so excited. “Riothouse” is my favorite of the three tracks. It’s straight-up raunchy garage rock: pounding drums, a great guitar hook, vocals with just the right amount of scratch, and of course, lyrics about smashing shit up. “Go get your shield and your gun!” Hell yeah. I wouldn’t say The Daytona Riots have an especially original sound; they’re pretty clearly a synthesis of their influences, and don’t necessarily bring anything novel to the table, but they do a great job of laying down some really solid, enjoyable rock ‘n’ roll. Me, I never say no to some solid rocking and rolling, and given how new of a band The Daytona Riots are, I’m pretty stoked to see what else they produce. I can definitely imagine having a riot to this song, stomping and smashing and grinning all over the damn place.
