"Alice" by Pogo (Disney Remix)

Next time you’re at a party, you should try jumping up on a chair and declaring, “Let’s get down to business!” If you have the right kind of friends, and if they’re sufficiently drunk, you’ll be met with a resounding chorus of, “TO DEFEAT THE HUNS!” It’s surprising how many people will get really enthused about Disney songs, my point being that I should open a Disney karaoke bar where people can get wasted and stab each other arguing over the correct words to “Under the Sea.” Wait, no, that’s not my point. My point is that Disney songs appeal to a lot of unexpected people. So when The Hairpin linked to the music video remixes of Pogo, I figured I’d repost it over here to share the love (Pogo doesn't work exclusively with Disney footage, but those are the ones that captured me the most, because, you know, THE HUNS).
“Alice” is, naturally, a remix of Alice in Wonderland footage, and it’s charming. The video is great, of course; that particular movie has a lot of excellent dancing clips to sample, and Pogo does a nice job of making something that feels cohesive out of bits. The delightfulness of watching Tweedledee and Tweedledum aside, though, the song is appealing as more than just a novelty. It’s dreamy and soothing, without feeling slow. “Alice” is a pretty sweet song in its own right; the fact that it’s remixed from Disney clips is just icing on the cake. I’m especially fond of the floral chorus he samples, which to me sounds the most quintessentially like something from Alice in Wonderland.
So yes, enjoy, check out Pogo’s other work or download his songs for free. And I’m not kidding about using that Huns line at your next party. Seriously. Folks get pumped.
